Sogndal Norway

Sogndal is a local authority area in Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway. It's situated on the northern coast of the Sognefjorden in the traditional district of Sogn. The village of Sogndalsfjøra (population 3,455 in 2012) is the administrative hub of Sogndal local authority area.[2] Other villages include Kaupanger, Kjørnes, Fimreite, Nornes, and Fjærland. Sogndal Airport, Haukåsen is located 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) southwest of Kaupanger. The Norwegian dialect spoken in Sogndal is known as sognamål. In 1917, a farmer in Sogndal turned up the Eggja stone while ploughing, a gravestone with runic inscriptions significant for the history of the Old Norse language.
